Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Apeing their betters by Thomas Rowlandson was sold in the Old Master Paintings auction at Bonhams in London in September last year. The price achieved of GBP 1,020.00 (€ 1,160.86) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Rowlandson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A gaming table at Devonshire House, London: Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, Harriet, Lady Duncannon, the Prince of Wales and others gambling in July 2017 with an auction result of GBP 87,500.00 (€ 97,636.56).
