In July 2011 Christies in London held the auction Lyons Demesne Works of Art from The Collection ofThe Late Dr. Tony Ryan, which included the work A wooded landscape with a waterfall possibly at Powerscourt and riders on a path in the foreground, a church in the distance by Thomas Roberts. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 73,250.00 (€ 84,065.33), 22% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Thomas Roberts have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Sheet of Water at Carton Park, Co. Kildare, with the Duke and Duchess of Leinster out walking, and gardeners rolling a serpentine path in the foreground in May 2000 with an auction result of GBP 454,750.00 (€ 729,706.05).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Juli 2011 führte Christies in London die Auktion Lyons Demesne Works of Art from The Collection ofThe Late Dr. Tony Ryan durch, in der auch die Arbeit A wooded landscape with a waterfall possibly at Powerscourt and riders on a path in the foreground, a church in the distance von Thomas Roberts zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 73.250,00 (€ 84.065,33) und damit 22% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Thomas Roberts auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Sheet of Water at Carton Park, Co. Kildare, with the Duke and Duchess of Leinster out walking, and gardeners rolling a serpentine path in the foreground im Mai 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 454.750,00 (€ 729.706,05).
