This artwork by Thomas Mackay achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in September 2001. In the British and Continental Watercolours and Drawings auction, the work Weston Church and meadows, Warwickshire sold for GBP 1,233.75 (€ 1,991.98) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 700.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Thomas Mackay; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Feeding the ducks; and Gathering the hay (illustrated) sold at auction in July 2004 with the realized price of GBP 1,673.00 (€ 2,528.27).
