In March 2006 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours, which included the work First Steps By The River by Thomas Mackay. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 960.00 (€ 1,375.51), 60% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Thomas Mackay; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Feeding the ducks; and Gathering the hay (illustrated) sold at auction in July 2004 with the realized price of GBP 1,673.00 (€ 2,528.27).

Im März 2006 führte Christies in London die Auktion British and Continental Watercolours durch, in der auch die Arbeit First Steps By The River von Thomas Mackay zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 960,00 (€ 1.375,51) und damit 60% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Thomas Mackay; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Feeding the ducks; and Gathering the hay (illustrated) im Juli 2004 mit dem Hammerpreis von GBP 1.673,00 (€ 2.528,27).
