This artwork by Thomas Jones achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2010. In the An Exceptional Eye: A Private British Collection auction, the work The Grotto Of Egeria, Near Rome sold for GBP 229,250.00 (€ 275,647.30) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 120,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Thomas Jones; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot View of The Campi Flegrei From The Camadolise Convent Near Naples sold at auction in November 2005 with the realized price of GBP 237,600.00 (€ 349,064.43).
