Auction result misses estimated price range
In May 2007 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of Thomas Crispe (b.1695) of Catton, bust-length, in a brown velvet coat, feigned oval by Thomas Frye for GBP 2,400.00 (€ 3,531.76). This price was achieved in the auction The Irish Sale Part II at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Frye achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of A Gentleman; And Portrait Of A Lady in April 2010 with an auction result of GBP 43,250.00 (€ 49,772.29).
