This artwork by Thomas Frye achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March 2004. In the British and Victorian including Scottish Paintings auction, the work Portrait of Benjamin Day, seated three-quarter-length, in a brown jacket, black breeches and a white stock, by a draped table sold for GBP 3,107.00 (€ 4,650.89) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Frye achieve.
