This artwork by Thomas Barker achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2009. In the Early British Paintings auction, the work The Saltarello, With A View Of The Colosseum, Rome sold for GBP 21,250.00 (€ 24,112.38) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 12,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Thomas Barker; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A Roman Capriccio With Figures, The Colosseum Beyond sold at auction in April 2008 with the realized price of GBP 23,300.00 (€ 29,704.21).
