Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Tetsutaro Kamatani could be acquired at Phillips in Hong Kong in May 2019 for an unexpectedly low price. In the 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design Day Sale auction, the work Proliferation - lips changed hands for HKD 50,000.00 (€ 5,722.49) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of HKD 70,000.00 – 90,000.00. Admittedly, works by Tetsutaro Kamatani have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Human Paradise II-bird, in November 2007 with an auction result of HKD 367,500.00 (€ 32,126.23).
