Auction result well in line with expectations
In November this year Phillips in London held the auction Photographs, which included the work Cuban Cigars (Prohibited) by Taryn Simon. The price achieved of GBP 6,985.00 (€ 8,094.10) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Taryn Simon - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Larry Mayes, Scene of Arrest, The Royal Inn, Gary, Indiana. Police found Mayes hiding beneath a mattress in this room. Served 18,5 years of an 80-year sentence for rape, robbery and unlawful deviate., which sold at auction in June 2021 for EUR 18,060.00.
