Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2020 Bonhams in London held the auction Modern & Contemporary African Art Online sale, which included the work Mourning Woman by Sydney Kumalo. The price achieved of GBP 3,570.00 (€ 3,985.32) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Sydney Kumalo - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Xhosa Girl, which sold at auction in May 2017 for GBP 10,000.00 (€ 11,485.40).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im November 2020 führte Bonhams in London die Auktion Modern & Contemporary African Art Online sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Mourning Woman von Sydney Kumalo zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 3.570,00 (€ 3.985,32) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Sydney Kumalo mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Xhosa Girl beobachtet, die im Mai 2017 für GBP 10.000,00 (€ 11.485,40) versteigert wurde.
