Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Girl with Dove by Sydney Kumalo was auctioned at Bonhams in London in October 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,932.50 (€ 3,256.29). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Sydney Kumalo - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Xhosa Girl, which sold at auction in May 2017 for GBP 10,000.00 (€ 11,485.40).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Girl with Dove von Sydney Kumalo im Oktober 2020 bei Bonhams in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 5.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 2.932,50 (€ 3.256,29) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Sydney Kumalo mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Xhosa Girl beobachtet, die im Mai 2017 für GBP 10.000,00 (€ 11.485,40) versteigert wurde.
