Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Mary Queen of Scots by William Quiller Orchardson was auctioned at Bonhams in Edinburgh in October last year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,187.50 (€ 3,713.40) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Quiller Orchardson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'The Queen of the Swords' A dozen cutlasses, selected hastily from an old arm-chest, and whose rusted hue bespoke how seldom they left the sheath, armed the same number of young Zetlanders, with whom mingled six maidens, led by Minna Troil; and the in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 83,650.00

Die Arbeit Mary Queen of Scots von William Quiller Orchardson kam im Oktober letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in Edinburgh zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 3.187,50 (€ 3.713,40) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Quiller Orchardson erzielen.
