In February 2011 Christies in New York held the auction Christie's Interiors, which included the work A social waif: study for A social eddy by William Quiller Orchardson. The result of USD 1,500.00 (€ 1,087.51) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of USD 1,500.00 – 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Quiller Orchardson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'The Queen of the Swords' A dozen cutlasses, selected hastily from an old arm-chest, and whose rusted hue bespoke how seldom they left the sheath, armed the same number of young Zetlanders, with whom mingled six maidens, led by Minna Troil; and the in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 83,650.00
