This artwork by John Hill achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in April 2002. In the The House Sale auction, the work The British Herbal: Eight Plates of Botanicals sold for USD 3,525.00 (€ 3,915.80) - well above the upper estimate of USD 2,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Hill; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Eden, or a compleat body of gardening, London, 1757, modern red morocco sold at auction in May last year with the realized price of GBP 6,300.00 (€ 7,411.35).

Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von John Hill; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Eden, or a compleat body of gardening, London, 1757, modern red morocco im Mai letzten Jahres mit dem Hammerpreis von GBP 6.300,00 (€ 7.411,35).
