This artwork by Simon de Vlieger achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2020. In the Old Master Day Sale including Old Master Paintings, Drawings and British Works on Paper auction, the work Wooded River Bank, With A Church In The Distance sold for GBP 15,000.00 (€ 16,731.36) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Simon de Vlieger achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch frigates exchanging salutes in a calm, with yachts, a rowing boat, a sloop carrying personnel, and fishermen on the shore in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 1,553,250.00 (€ 1,782,586.75).
