Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Singapore River by Seah Kim Joo was auctioned at Bonhams in Hong Kong in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of HKD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for HKD 21,675.00 (€ 2,573.29). Admittedly, works by Seah Kim Joo have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Boat Quay (Cityscape) in October 2017 with an auction result of HKD 112,500.00 (€ 12,381.95).
