8vo (240 x 154 mm.), 56 hand-coloured engraved plates by S. Watts from drawings by E.D. Smith, contemporary brown diced calf, rebacked, sprinkled edges, final gathering splitting, scattered spotting, some transfer from plates onto facing leaves
The seeds from which these plants were propagated in English nurseries were mostly collected in Australia by William Baxter on behalf of a Mr F. Henchman. "The greater part are handsome evergreen shrubs, and many produce sweet- scented flowers; and as they are generally of free growth, and easily managed, they may be considered as the most desirable plants for cultivation" (Sweet).

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Flora Australasica..., 1827-1828 by Robert Sweet was sold in the The Library of Henry Rogers Broughton, 2nd Baron Fairhaven Part I auction at Sothebys in London in May last year. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 3,276.00 (€ 3,853.90). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Robert Sweet - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The British Flower Garden, 1823-1838, 7 volumes, which sold at auction in May last year for GBP 7,560.00 (€ 8,893.62).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Flora Australasica..., 1827-1828 von Robert Sweet wurde im Mai letzten Jahres in der Auktion The Library of Henry Rogers Broughton, 2nd Baron Fairhaven Part I bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 3.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 3.276,00 (€ 3.853,90) einen neuen Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Robert Sweet mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The British Flower Garden, 1823-1838, 7 volumes beobachtet, die im Mai letzten Jahres für GBP 7.560,00 (€ 8.893,62) versteigert wurde.
