Auction result misses estimated price range
In August 2007 a collector was able to acquire the work Boys Bathing Below Ravenscraig Castle by John Thomson of Duddingston for GBP 3,360.00 (€ 4,966.97). This price was achieved in the auction Scottish and Sporting Pictures at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Thomson of Duddingston - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Self-portrait at an easel, 14 November 1816, which sold at auction in May 2007 for GBP 10,800.00 (€ 15,892.93).
