In May 2011 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work The British Queen of Barrow in coastal waters (illustrated); and The British Queen of Barrow reefed-down in heavy seas by Reuben Chappell. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,750.00 (€ 2,001.13), 46% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Reuben Chappell - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Naval Schooner In Two Positions, which sold at auction in December 2008 for GBP 6,250.00 (€ 6,564.32).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 46 % übertroffen
Im Mai 2011 führte Christies in London die Auktion Maritime Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit The British Queen of Barrow in coastal waters (illustrated); and The British Queen of Barrow reefed-down in heavy seas von Reuben Chappell zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 1.750,00 (€ 2.001,13) und damit 46% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Reuben Chappell mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A Naval Schooner In Two Positions beobachtet, die im Dezember 2008 für GBP 6.250,00 (€ 6.564,32) versteigert wurde.
