Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Self-Portrait by Rembrandt Peale was sold in the American Art auction at Sothebys in New York in May 2016. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 300,000.00 – 500,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 346,000.00 (€ 310,731.93) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Rembrandt Peale - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Equestrian Portrait of George Washington, which sold at auction in December 2004 for USD 1,071,500.00 (€ 791,475.85).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Self-Portrait von Rembrandt Peale wurde im Mai 2016 in der Auktion American Art bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 300.000,00 – 500.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 346.000,00 (€ 310.731,93) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Rembrandt Peale mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Equestrian Portrait of George Washington beobachtet, die im Dezember 2004 für USD 1.071.500,00 (€ 791.475,85) versteigert wurde.
