Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of Charles Hodge by Rembrandt Peale was sold in the American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture auction at Sothebys in New York in December 2011. The price achieved of USD 50,000.00 (€ 38,541.59) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Rembrandt Peale achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Equestrian Portrait of George Washington in December 2004 with an auction result of USD 1,071,500.00 (€ 791,475.85).
