Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Pietro Testa achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January this year. In the Old Master and 19th Century Prints auction, the work The Prodigal Son sold for USD 8,820.00 (€ 8,123.04) - well above the upper estimate of USD 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pietro Testa achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Aeneas On The Bank Of The River Styx in February 2013 with an auction result of USD 2,994,500.00 (€ 2,289,548.13).
