The work The Elephant by Pietro Longhi was sold in the Important Old Master Paintings and Sculpture auction at Sothebys in New York in February 2013. It achieved a price of USD 1,314,500.00 (€ 1,005,046.26), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 46%. With this result, The Elephant is even the most expensive work of art by Pietro Longhi that we have observed at auctions so far.
