Auction result well in line with expectations

The work A gentleman in profile to the left, in jacket with large collar, waistcoat and frilled cravat, hair en queue; and two putti with laurel crowns beside a plaque with initials DJB and a burning altar inscribed 'A L'AMITÉ' by Piat Joseph Sauvage was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2002. The price achieved of GBP 956.00 (€ 1,497.11) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Piat Joseph Sauvage achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Venus And Cupid in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 93,750.00 (€ 80,334.19).
