Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2016 a collector was able to acquire the work An artist's soul borne up to Heaven by Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg for GBP 12,500.00 (€ 14,614.53). This price was achieved in the auction A Surreal Legacy: Selected works of art from The Edward James Foundation at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 15,000.00 – 25,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A wooded landscape with two monkeys eating grapes in October 2014 with an auction result of GBP 116,500.00 (€ 148,753.67).
