Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2018 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Masters Day Sale, which included the work A Calm: A Harbour Scene, With Fishermen Resting Near Ruins by Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 8,750.00 (€ 9,810.67) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A wooded landscape with two monkeys eating grapes in October 2014 with an auction result of GBP 116,500.00 (€ 148,753.67).
