Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Mounted Peasant And Her Cattle Fording A Stream by Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg was sold in the Old Master Paintings auction at Sothebys in New York in June 2012. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 8,750.00 (€ 6,907.17) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A wooded landscape with two monkeys eating grapes in October 2014 with an auction result of GBP 116,500.00 (€ 148,753.67).
