Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Oliver Messel could be acquired at Christies in London in September 2020 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Snowdon: A Life in Art and Objects auction, the work The first sketch for "Idomeneo" for the 1951 Glyndebourne Festival changed hands for GBP 750.00 (€ 827.00) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Oliver Messel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Mrs William "Babe" Paley (1915-1978) in September 2020 with an auction result of GBP 23,750.00 (€ 26,188.24).
In der Auktion Snowdon: A Life in Art and Objects wechselte die Arbeit The first sketch for "Idomeneo" for the 1951 Glyndebourne Festival für GBP 750,00 (€ 827,00) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 800,00 – 1.200,00.
