It achieved a price of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 3,859.32), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 17%. Admittedly, works by Oliver Messel have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Mrs William "Babe" Paley (1915-1978) in September 2020 with an auction result of GBP 23,750.00 (€ 26,188.24).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Costume design for Vivien Leigh (1913-1967) as Cleopatra for the Gabriel Pascal Production of Caesar and Cleopatra, 1945 von Oliver Messel kam im September 2020 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 3.500,00 (€ 3.859,32) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 17%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Oliver Messel auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of Mrs William "Babe" Paley (1915-1978) im September 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 23.750,00 (€ 26.188,24).
