This artwork by Octavius Thomas Clark achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2004. In the British and Victorian Paintings auction, the work A shepherd with his flock on a riverside track sold for GBP 1,434.00 (€ 2,151.53) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Octavius Thomas Clark; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Figures before a cottage in a wooded river landscape sold at auction in November 2000 with the realized price of GBP 1,527.50 (€ 2,496.64).
