This artwork by Nicolas de Largillière achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in June 2020. In the Old Masters auction, the work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Said To Be The Chamberlain De Montargu, Half-Length, Wearing A Breastplate Over A Red Velvet Jacket With Gold Embroidered Sleeves sold for USD 47,500.00 (€ 42,293.65) - well above the upper estimate of USD 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nicolas de Largillière achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La belle Strasbourgeoise in September 2020 with an auction result of EUR 1,570,000.00.

In der Auktion Old Masters wurde die Arbeit Portrait Of A Gentleman, Said To Be The Chamberlain De Montargu, Half-Length, Wearing A Breastplate Over A Red Velvet Jacket With Gold Embroidered Sleeves für USD 47.500,00 (€ 42.293,65) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 20.000,00.
