Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2021 Bonhams in London held the auction Modern & Contemporary African Art, which included the work A Cape Aloe in flower by Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. The price achieved of GBP 22,750.00 (€ 26,725.39) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Cell Door, Robben Island, which sold at auction in May 2019 for USD 112,575.00 (€ 100,973.18).
