Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Portrait of Miss Gardner, three-quarter-length, in a white dress with a blue sash and a hat, a bird on a string perched on her right hand, a bird cage to her side, in a landscape by Nathanial Hone the Younger was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2011. It achieved a price of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 20,083.87), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 17%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nathanial Hone the Younger achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Captain the Hon. Robert Boyle Walsingham, M.P. (1736-1780), full-length, in naval uniform, with a view of Louisbourg, Canada, beyond in May 2000 with an auction result of GBP 245,750.00 (€ 394,338.12).
