Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A double-sided portrait of a girl, in blue dress with white slip, black necklace tucked in at corsage, dark curling hair, and a boy, in blue coat with gold buttons, white frilled-edged shirt; both with sky background by Nicholas Freese was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2008. The price achieved of GBP 2,500.00 (€ 3,160.08) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Nicholas Freese - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A young officer of a light company, in red uniform with yellow facings, silver epaulettes, black stock and frilled white cravat, black shoulder belt with gilt belt plate, powdered hair; sky background, which sold at auction in December 2008 for GBP 11,250.00 (€ 11,815.77).
