In October last year Bonhams in London held the auction The Marine Sale, which included the work 'On the High Seas' by Montague Dawson. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 126,300.00 (€ 147,138.10), 58% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Montague Dawson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The action between H.M.S. Shannon and the U.S.S. Chesapeake,1st June 1813, which sold at auction in February 2006 for USD 486,400.00 (€ 407,882.60).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 58 % übertroffen
Im Oktober letzten Jahres führte Bonhams in London die Auktion The Marine Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit 'On the High Seas' von Montague Dawson zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 126.300,00 (€ 147.138,10) und damit 58% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Montague Dawson mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The action between H.M.S. Shannon and the U.S.S. Chesapeake,1st June 1813 beobachtet, die im Februar 2006 für USD 486.400,00 (€ 407.882,60) versteigert wurde.
