Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Paradise Flycatcher Under the Tree by Mei Lanfang was auctioned at Bonhams in Hong Kong in December 2020, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 8,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at HKD 24,225.00 (€ 2,555.21). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Mei Lanfang achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Amitayu in April 2016 with an auction result of HKD 687,500.00 (€ 77,457.17).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Paradise Flycatcher Under the Tree von Mei Lanfang im Dezember 2020 bei Bonhams in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – HKD 8.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit HKD 24.225,00 (€ 2.555,21) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Mei Lanfang erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Amitayu im April 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 687.500,00 (€ 77.457,17).
