This artwork by Maung Su Yatanabon achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in March last year. In the Travel & Exploration auction, the work A set of four portrait studies of Burmese sitters including a cigar smoker and cheroot smoker, a priest and a priestess each 32 x 25.1cm (12 5/8 x 9 7/8in). (4) all mounted but unframed sold for GBP 1,912.50 (€ 2,267.48) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. This high result makes A set of four portrait studies of Burmese sitters including a cigar smoker and cheroot smoker, a priest and a priestess each 32 x 25.1cm (12 5/8 x 9 7/8in). (4) all mounted but unframed the most expensive artwork by Maung Su Yatanabon that we have observed at auctions so far.
