In the IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU auction, the work A gentleman, facing right in black doublet with gold buttons, white lawn collar with tassels, black cloak, shoulder-length brown hair, beard and moustache sold for GBP 3,290.00 (€ 5,377.38) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,800.00. Admittedly, works by Matthew Snelling have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A gentleman, in black habit slashed on front and sleeves to reveal white, white lawn collar with tassels, long brown curling hair; tan-coloured curtain and sky background, gold edge border in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 23,300.00 (€ 32,626.03).
