Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Lesser Known Son by Matthew Monahan was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 3,780.00 (€ 4,446.81). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Matthew Monahan achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Morning Thaw in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 92,000.00 (€ 59,125.96).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Lesser Known Son von Matthew Monahan im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 5.000,00 – 7.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 3.780,00 (€ 4.446,81) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Matthew Monahan erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Morning Thaw im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 92.000,00 (€ 59.125,96).
