Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Red Camellias in a Vase by Marsden Hartley was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in December 2020. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 252,000.00 (€ 206,050.70) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Marsden Hartley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pre-War Pageant in November 2018 with an auction result of USD 27,395,000.00 (€ 24,194,118.17).
