MARIE-THÉRÈSE de NOIRETERRE (FRENCH, 1760 - AFTER 1819)
A young gentleman, in double-breasted dark grey coat, striped brown waistcoat, red-bordered under-waistcoat, knotted white cravat, wearing a tricolore police bonnet, curly brown hair; together with a young gentleman, in blue coat with gold epaulettes and gold buttons, matching waistcoat, knotted spotted gauze cravat, wearing a black bicorn hat in his long powdered hair (French School, circa 1793)
the latter indistinctly signed 'Cérrel' or 'Térrel' (lower right)
2 5/16 in. (59 mm.) diam., hammered gilt-brass mount on a wooden base and 2 3/16 in. (56 mm.) diam., gilt-metal frame (2)

Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2007 Christies in London held the auction Important Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes, which included the work A Young Gentleman, In Double-Breasted Dark Grey Coat, Striped Brown Waistcoat, Red-Bordered Under-Waistcoat, Knotted White Cravat, Wearing A Tricolore Police Bonnet, Curly Brown Hair; Together With A Young Gentleman, In Blue Coat With Gold Epaulettes by Marie-Thérèse de Noireterre. The price achieved of GBP 2,040 (€ 3,027) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been given by the auction house as GBP 1,500 - 2,500. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Marie-Thérèse de Noireterre - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work , which sold at auction in July 2018 for GBP 8,750 (€ 9,811).

Im Juni 2007 führte Christies in London die Auktion Important Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Young Gentleman, In Double-Breasted Dark Grey Coat, Striped Brown Waistcoat, Red-Bordered Under-Waistcoat, Knotted White Cravat, Wearing A Tricolore Police Bonnet, Curly Brown Hair; Together With A Young Gentleman, In Blue Coat With Gold Epaulettes von Marie-Thérèse de Noireterre zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 2.040 (€ 3.027) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.500 – 2.500 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Marie-Thérèse de Noireterre mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit beobachtet, die im Juli 2018 für GBP 8.750 (€ 9.811) versteigert wurde.
