This artwork by María Berrío achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May last year. In the 21st Century Evening Sale auction, the work The Celebration sold for USD 1,320,000.00 (€ 1,230,081.07) - well above the upper estimate of USD 700,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by María Berrío; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not sold at auction in November last year with the realized price of USD 1,603,000.00 (€ 1,552,843.17).
