Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Maerten Boelema de Stomme achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in May 2003. In the OLD MASTER PICTURES auction, the work A silver tazza, an upturned roemer, a partly-peeled lemon, a knife and hazelnuts on a draped table sold for EUR 53,775.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 20,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Maerten Boelema de Stomme; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Still Life With A Ham, A Glass And A Nautilus Cup On A Table Draped With A White Cloth sold at auction in July 2013 with the realized price of GBP 92,500.00 (€ 105,697.37).
