Auction result misses estimated price range
In May 2001 a collector was able to acquire the work The barque Vale of Nith of Liverpool under reduced sail in heavy weather by Luigi Roberto for GBP 940.00 (€ 1,575.93). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00 set by the auction house. Other works by Luigi Roberto have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in May 2003 by the work The Greve Frijs under full sail in the Mediterranean; and The Greve Frijs under reduced sail in a swell at GBP 1,880.00 (€ 2,619.31).
