Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Louis Pellegrin could be acquired at Christies in New York in February 2006 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Maritime auction, the work The Spanish topsail schooner Victoria in two positions off Marseilles changed hands for USD 1,800.00 (€ 1,509.43) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Louis Pellegrin - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Spanish brig Jayne Ferrer approaching Marseilles with the pilot boat off her stern, which sold at auction in June 2003 for GBP 4,182.50 (€ 6,010.48).
