Auction result well in line with expectations
In July this year Christies in London held the auction Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours, which included the work A view of the Tomb of Mamia, in Pompeii by Louis Jean Desprez. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 10,080.00 (€ 11,760.30) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Louis Jean Desprez achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Design For A Stage Set: The Temple Of Neptune in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 87,500.00 (€ 124,045.61).
