Commentaire : Louis-François Cassas est un des premiers peintres voyageurs à parcourir le pourtour méditerranéen. Il commencera ses voyages par l'Italie et la Dalmatie, puis parcourra l'Empire Ottoman, notamment la Syrie et le Liban. Ses dessins restent souvent les seuls souvenirs du superbe état de conservation de certains vestiges antiques, dont la tristement célèbre cité de Palmyre.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Voyageurs Sur Les Rivages D'Un Lac Dans Un Paysage D'Italie by Louis-François Cassas was sold in the Old Master and 19th Century Paintings and Drawings auction at Artcurial in November 2015. The price achieved of EUR 3,640.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 3,000.00 – 4,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Louis-François Cassas achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Archéologues examinant un bas-relief aux abords de la ville d'Athènes in March 2017 with an auction result of EUR 182,500.00.
