Louis Dodd, 20th Century
Towards Hudson Bay
oil on canvas
17½ x 25in. (44.5 x 63.5cm.)

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by Louis Dodd achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in September 2001. In the THE TRAVEL SALE auction, the work Towards Hudson Bay sold for GBP 2,937.50 (€ 4,742.81) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Louis Dodd - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Charleston built frigate John Adams with the American fleet on the Guadeloupe station under Commodore Truxtun at Basseterre, St. Christoper's and Nevis, Leeward Islands, West Indies, which sold at auction in May 2000 for GBP 9,987.50 (€ 16,026.25).
