Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work New York harbor anno 1788, with an American frigate, a gun brig and other shipping in the harbor and figures on the quayside by Louis Dodd was auctioned at Christies in New York in October 2007, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 6,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 18,750.00 (€ 12,959.64). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Louis Dodd; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Charleston built frigate John Adams with the American fleet on the Guadeloupe station under Commodore Truxtun at Basseterre, St. Christoper's and Nevis, Leeward Islands, West Indies sold at auction in May 2000 with the realized price of GBP 9,987.50 (€ 16,026.25).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit New York harbor anno 1788, with an American frigate, a gun brig and other shipping in the harbor and figures on the quayside von Louis Dodd im Oktober 2007 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches.
